HMQG August Member Update

We have a busy and exciting month in the guild! First, make sure you plan to come to the Annual HMQG Summer BBQ on August 12th from 11-3pm at the home of Ellen Gaber (details below - sign up to bring something!). Then, on the weekend of our normal meeting, we have modern quilter extraordinaire, Christa Watson, visiting the guild. On Friday night, August 18th, she'll present a trunk show of her beautiful quilt designs and skilled quilting. On Saturday, August 19th, Christa leads a workshop on Modern Machine Quilting using your domestic machine. Check out the details below and register for both events.

Happy sewing!

If you are unable to make the meeting, please make arrangements to get your quilt to Amy in advance. As always, if issues arise, please be sure to communicate! Also, don't forget to add a label to the back of your quilt so your partner knows who made it. If you would like to add a note card, be sure to securely pin it to the quilt as we will be sending them as one big batch to the Triad MQG.

QuiltCon Charity Quilt Challenge

This year the theme is “Modern Traditionalism”. Michelle Hines, HMQG member, has given us a basic layout (shown above) that we are using to create our 2018 quilt. You can find out more details on the quilt pattern and construction plan here! The color palette consists of white, marigold, apricot, watermelon, jewel and jam. We will be kitting the fabric that has been donated by Michael Miller Fabrics in to block kits. You should have enough fabric to make your primary block plus several secondary blocks utilizing the scraps. It also makes it easy to get a variety in color for these units. Fabric kits will be available for pickup at our August 12th BBQ social or mailed to you if you will not be in attendance. Completed blocks are due back to Valerie no later than our September 16th meeting. These may be mailed to Valerie if you are unable to attend but must be in her hands by September 16th. Construction Timeline (items underlined need volunteers!)

  • Kitting Day: Tuesday, August 8th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Spring

  • Blocks Due: Saturday, September 16th (HMQG Monthly Guild Meeting Day)

  • Assembly Day #1: Wednesday, September 20th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at QuiltWorks in Cypress

  • Assembly Day #2: Tuesday, October 10th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Spring (may not be needed)
