June - October Challenge: It's in the Bag!

The time has come for another challenge: we're putting the spotlight on zippered bags. But fear not, for we're here to make zippers your new best friends!
For the challenge, the task is simple: we want you to sew a bag incorporating a zipper. Whether you opt for a traditional zipper closure or a zippered pocket, the choice is yours. Let your creativity soar as you stitch your way to zipper supremacy!
Now, we know what you're thinking: zippers can be a tad intimidating. But don't worry, we've got your back! In June, we are hosting a bag making workshop to take all the stress and tension out of sewing all kinds of bags. So, grab your fabric and join us for the “It’s in the Bag!” challenge. Complete rules are at the bottom of this page. Let's see what marvelous bag magic you can whip up. Remember, it's not just about the destination; it's about the joy of stitching along the way. Below is a list of YouTube tutorials that show you how to make and sew bags. They are all great resources that demonstrate making your own pattern or linking to a pattern you can purchase.

  • You can use any bag pattern you want within the size requirements. You can even draft your own.

  • The bag must have a functioning zipper to qualify for the competition. This zipper can be the opening or a pocket.

  • The bag must be made within the time frame of June – October 2024.

  • Bring your bag to the October meeting for a chance to win a fabulous prize.

  • You can make as many bags as you want based on the challenge, but you only get one entry for the prize.

  • The bag must be finished to qualify for the prize.

  • The smallest size eligible for a prize is 6” x 6”

  • The bag does not have to be patchwork/pieced or quilted
