Meetings & Events
Everything you need to know about Guild Meetings and Events!
Our guild meetings are held the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10 AM. Occasionally meetings are rescheduled when they conflict with holidays. Guests are welcome for up to two meetings; we ask you to become a member after that. We have two primary meeting locations at the Harris County Department of Education buildings. Be sure to check that you have the correct location for each meeting. Locations are announced in our monthly newsletter and on the Year at a Glance. Location information is at the bottom of this page. Each guild meeting features an opportunity for our members and guests to show their work during Sew and Tell. We hope you will participate! We welcome all your creations: quilts, bags, wall hangings, garments, etc! Each of our meetings also features fun door prize giveaways -- all you have to do is show up and sign in to be eligible to win. We hold several challenges during the year designed to grow your modern quilting creativity and skills. Many of our members have later entered their challenge creations in quilt shows - some have even been displayed at QuiltCon! We also have a modern Block of the Month each year; members who have a completed top by the next January are eligible to win a prize. You can join at any time during the year. Several times a year we also hold workshops. Workshops may be taught by visiting teachers or one of our guild members. Examples of recent workshops include Paper Piecing with Tighe Flanagan and making the Range Backpack (a Noodhead pattern) prior to the Houston Quilt Festival. Other fun events include socials and "sewcials" (sew-ins after our meetings) as well as our annual "Studio Sale," a crafty garage sale where you can buy, sell and barter fabric and notions. Finally, we hold twice a year member retreats where we spend a long weekend enjoying each other's company and getting our "sew" on in creative community with one another!
