News from the Board

QuiltCon, the annual quilt show sponsored and put on the Modern Quilt Guild, just wrapped up in Savannah, GA. Did you attend or watch in unfold via everyone's Instagram feed? Did you see the Best in Show winning quilt?

2017 QuiltCon Best in Show "Bling" By Katherine (Kat) Jones (@twocatsquilt) Chigwell, Tasmania, Austraila 98" x 98"

The folks who attended QuiltCon have put together a slide show to look at the winners and other stand out quilts. The quilts are an amazing group of inspiring works of art. Do you have something fun to share from Quiltcon? Be sure to bring it to our meeting. We'd love to see your projects and hear your stories. Stephanie Freeman HMQG President

Moda Bella Challenge

Featuring 12 Bella Solids | #modabellachallenge

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Moda’s Bella Solids, Moda is hosting a challenge inspired by their leader, Mark Dunn’s, passion for textiles and love of color! Entries should have a contemporary feel and must include only the 12 Bella Solids featured below and a piece of each must be used. Any type of piecing, quilting, embroidery, etc. may be used to create your masterpiece. The challenge began February 1 and the winners will be announced October 20, 2017. Winning quilts will be exhibited in Moda’s booth at Fall Market beginning October 26, 2017. The top 3 quilts will be purchased and added to Moda’s quilt collection. Charity Update

Welcome and thank you to the members of the Charity Committee: Colleen, Chi-fen, Jenn, Alice, Ginny, Joe Ann, Michaela, Leah, and Dea.

Katy Cares is the primary beneficiary for 2017. They need quilts for the women (10 full size) and children (30 twin size), along with baby quilts and throw cushions. To date, we have delivered 1 twin quilt top and backing (from donated fabric), 8 baby quilts, 1 adult lap quilt, and 4 throw cushions.

Remember that we are having a sew in immediately after this month's meeting. We will be making scrappy string HST blocks – pure therapy! The background squares and strings will be supplied. Just bring your sewing machine, iron and pressing pad. If you can't stay for the sew in, then please consider taking home a 10-block kit; great mindless sewing if you need a break from other projects.

Thanks to everyone who took one (or more) of the kits - remember they are due back by the April meeting. Thanks to Debbie for binding the donated red/white/black quilt, Chi-fen and Jenn for volunteering to assemble two of the HST quilts, and Colleen for binding one of these.

Last but not least ... we owe Pam an enormous thanks, for she has ordered fabric to do backing for all the quilts at Katy Cares. Astonishing generosity! Thank you so very much Pam!

This an ambitious project to be sure - we will do the best we can, and have some fun while we're at it.
